When one thinks of cheating, one of the first things that comes to mind is cheating on an exam or test (Scheff). However, cheating is not limited to that. Anything ranging from copying a simple homework assignment to cheating on a final exam is considered cheating. Education Communications (1998) found that four out of every five high school "honor roll" students admitted to cheating during their high school career to improve their grades. 53% of the respondents believed that cheating was NOT a big deal. Even after looking at these facts, people may argue that there is not enough evidence to say that cheating is a problem. However, according to a 2002 confidential surgery of 12,000 high school students, 74% of students admitted cheating on an examination at least once in the past year (ABC News Primetime). After looking at these striking numbers, it can be said that cheating is clearly a problem in American schools.
